Psychiatrist | Brain Researcher | Psychoanalyst | International Keynote Speaker | Award-Winning Author | TV Presenter, Israel
Yoram Yovell MD PhD is a supervising and training psychoanalyst and a researcher in the Division of Clinical Neuroscience at Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center. He is also associate professor of the practice in the Department of Psychology, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Yovell studies brain mechanisms of physical and mental pain, and their associations with the PANIC/GRIEF (LOSS) emotional system, depression, and suicidality. His insights into the anti-suicidal effects of ultra-low-dose buprenorphine have led him to explore molecular interactions at the level of the mu-opioid receptor (MOR). Some of his group’s recent findings might be useful for the development of safer, less addictive alternatives to narcotic drugs.
Yovell is the author of several bestselling books in Israel, and has an interview program on Israeli TV. He is also an international speaker on topics ranging from gender differences in brain structure and function, affective neuroscience, and the scientific pursuit of happiness.
