Lemmens Robin

Head of the stroke unit at the University Hospitals Leuven, Belgium

Prof. Lemmens is the head of the stroke unit at the University Hospitals Leuven.

He graduated from the KU Leuven Medical School in 2003 and finished his residency in Neurology in 2010. He has a research interest in the role of neuroimaging in acute stroke and the neurobiology of stroke recovery.
In 2012-2013 he was a visiting neurologist and researcher at Stanford where he worked with Dr Gregory Albers and Dr Gary Steinberg. After his return to Belgium he continued his clinical activities for patients confronted with cerebrovascular diseases and his research activities in neuroimaging and stroke recovery.

Since 2012 he is a clinical investigator of FWO Flanders en in 2015 he became national coordinator of a FP7 European project: WAKE-UP, a project on the role of MRI based thrombolysis in acute stroke patients.
He has published over 100 research papers and supervises several PhD students. Additionally he is national coordinator of clinical trials in acute stroke treatment and secondary stroke prevention and recently he obtained a Horizon 2020 grant proposal as a co-promotor and national coordinator.
He is a fellow of the European Stroke Organization and Vice-Chair of ESOTA (European Stroke OrganisationTrial Allicance).
He serves on several committees and boards at the University Hospitals Leuven.
